First-time mom and baby products
My journey of motherhood started when I figured out, I am pregnant, with my now 19- months-old little boy, soon after finishing my PhD.
Getting ready for the new member of our family, planning my own baby shower and decorating his nursery was all so dreamy and fun, but soon after he was born, I felt so overwhelmed like many first-time moms.
Sleepless nights, baby blues, constant care giving, adjusting to the new routine and a new me was sometimes so much to handle.
When you are a new mom and have never been around babies, you will have so many questions like:
What baby products do you really need, or you don't. Or what to pack for your first trip with a baby? How to prepare the first purees? Should I buy a specific gadget for it?
Like many of you, I had and still have so many questions and I realized I can turn to my mom friends, mom groups on social media and blog posts to read and use other people's experiences.
However, there is no one-size-fits-all solution but every time I read a few blog posts on the same problem or question I would come to a reasonable conclusion. So, I decided to share my own experiences and information that I have put together here with the hope of helping new moms.
Motherhood and personal growth
Motherhood can be an ultimate journey of personal growth. No matter how much you have worked on your personal growth in the past and how you took care of people you love, being a whole world to a little human requires a different level of sacrifice and growth.
Motherhood requires one to grow in so many ways. From being more patient and present with your kids to working harder and with more discipline. You can think of motherhood as the hardest job in the world but also an opportunity for personal growth.
The first few months of motherhood for me was so hard mentally, physically and emotionally. I have been suffering from severe back and shoulder pain, baby blues, sleep deprivation and so much more like many of the new moms. I realized I need to take care of myself better than ever before if I want to survive and enjoy this journey. So, I started cooking and eating healthier and added a few light physical exercises into my daily routine like going for short walks with my baby. I started meditating again, even if it was for a short amount of time like for 5 to10 minutes. I started reading motivational books, phrases and poems every day and after a while my whole life started to get better. I found myself to be more present with my baby and enjoying motherhood more than ever before.
They say, “you can’t pour from an empty cup”, so how do we fill our cups?
Once I heard from a mom “Let our children be our reason not our excuse” and it changed my whole perception. Now I am less likely to skip exercise or meditation because I want to be the best version of myself for my kid and myself.
I always thought motherhood should be this selfless and all sacrifice journey of not enjoying your life for yourself anymore. But by prioritizing my personal growth and taking a few actions towards it everyday I now love myself more than ever before. I love how I am growing as a human and as a mom. I find motherhood with all its hardships and commitments the best personal growth motivator and gift of all time.
