Are you planning to explore the enchanting city of Paris with your little one? Known for its stunning architecture, rich history, and delicious cuisine, Paris is a magical destination for families. However, traveling with a baby can present unique challenges. To ensure you have a smooth and enjoyable experience, here are some essential tips to keep in mind before you set off on your Parisian adventure.

1. Highchairs Are Hard to Come By

One surprising fact about dining in Paris is that many cafes and restaurants do not provide highchairs. During our visit, none of the ten-plus cafes we explored had a highchair available. If you have a young toddler, you know how challenging it can be to enjoy a meal when your little one is climbing all over you and the table. To make your dining experience more manageable, consider investing in a portable travel highchair. These lightweight highchairs can easily fit under your stroller, ensuring your child has a safe and comfortable place to sit and you all can enjoy your meal.

2. Changing Tables Are Rare

In addition to the lack of highchairs, you’ll find that changing tables in bathrooms are also few and far between. Many places in Paris, including cafes, do not have dedicated changing areas. To be prepared for diaper changes on the go, pack some disposable changing pads and pull-on diapers. I remember having to change my baby in a restaurant bathroom while my husband held him in the air! Being resourceful and prepared will save you from unnecessary stress during your trip.

3. Be Ready to Walk (and Climb Stairs!)

Paris is a city best explored on foot, with its charming streets and picturesque neighborhoods. However, be prepared for a lot of walking and navigating stairs. Some locations, like Montmartre, have steep stairs that may be challenging with a stroller. Before visiting any historical sites, check if there are elevators or lifts to avoid long staircases. Prioritizing accessibility will help you enjoy the beauty of Paris without the added stress of maneuvering a stroller through challenging terrain.

4. Consider Alternative Transportation

The Paris metro is famous for its extensive network, but it can be a bit tricky when traveling with a baby. Many metro stations lack elevators, meaning you’ll need to carry your stroller up and down the stairs. To make your travels easier, consider using the bus system or opt for Uber. Both options can be more convenient and will save you from the hassle of navigating the metro with a stroller and all your belongings.

5. No Need for Car Seats in Taxis and Ubers

When using taxis or Uber in Paris, you’ll be relieved to know that car seats are not a requirement. This flexibility can be a lifesaver when you're in a pinch, but it’s important to keep your baby secure during rides by holding your little one in your lap or with a seatbelt.

Enjoy Your Parisian Adventure!

With its stunning sights, delectable food, and vibrant culture, Paris offers countless memories waiting to be made. By keeping these tips in mind, you can navigate the city with your baby more comfortably and focus on enjoying every moment together. Bon voyage!
