Switzerland with a baby

Writer's picture: Mahsa SpMahsa Sp

Is it your first time traveling to Switzerland? Are you traveling with a baby? Do you only have a few days to spend in Switzerland and want to see urban life and nature on the same trip?

Read this blog post then ...

I traveled to Switzerland with my husband and 20-month-old baby in June 2024. We drove there from Germany and were wondering if there would be a passport check on the border since Switzerland is not a part of the European Union.

If you are from any country inside Europe or have received a tourist visa for any country in Europe, you can easily travel to Switzerland too.

What to visit in Switzerland?

Two days in Zurich

We drove to Switzerland and started our trip from Zurich. If you are flying to Switzerland, Zurich would still be a great starting point. The city is so beautiful, clean and very close to some charming places in the country.

FIFA Museum

If you love football, make sure you visit the FIFA Museum, and your little one will also love it. So much color and so many things (football-related artifacts, football trophies, and World Cup memorabilia) to look at to keep your little one entertained. All members of the FIFA association are featured in this Museum.

Lindt Home of Chocolate

It is a must-visit in Zurich even if you are not a crazy chocolate lover. The museum is very entertaining and unique. Take a picture with the tall chocolate fountain and enjoy a small meal and drink at the beautiful café inside the general area of the museum.

The museum tour will start with a walk through a tiny artificial cocoa forest where you will learn about the history of chocolate. Then you will enter a mini chocolate factory display that shows you the steps in making the most amazing chocolates in the world.

There are some liquid chocolate taste stations that you should not miss. Oh, the caramel one is to die for!!!

There are the Lindt round Lindor chocolate taste stations where you can take one of each different taste. After you exit the museum enjoy the biggest Lindt shop you can find in the world.

Old town (Alstadt) and Banhofstrasse

Alstadt is the historic city center of Zurich full of nice restaurants, hotels, and shops. Search for Niederdorfstrasse which is a part of the old town with the best historic sights.

If you love seeing the luxurious part of the town, go to Bahnhofstrasse and walk in the streets. You will enjoy how clean, beautiful and nice everything looks, people and buildings.

Lake or River cruise?

We went on the Limmat River cruise (The river that goes through the middle of the old town and divides it into two sections) instead of the lake cruise. It was shorter and the views were much nicer and closer.

Three days in Interlaken, Grindelwald, and Rhine fall

On the third day of our trip, first thing in the morning we drove to Mount Pilatus cable car station.

The cable car ride was about 30 minutes to the intermediate station Fräkmünteggand and then to go all the way to the top you need to ride (with the same ticket) the aerial cableway Dragon Ride which takes about 4 minutes. The view from the dragon ride and the center is breathtaking.

Make sure you go for a walk through the tunnels and have a look at the beautiful scenery. You can take the stroller, but the ride is very bumpy and dark in some spots.

Tip: Keep your tickets with you all the time. You need them on your way back.

We got an Airbnb in a rural area close to Lucerne, so we ended the day with a nice dinner at a cute café.

The next day we drove to Grindelwald and passed by the beautiful turquoise Brienz River. Make sure to stop at one of the vista points (There are not many of them like you see in America so stop where it is allowed) and walk by this magical river.

Once in Glandelwild go to the tourist and activities center and you can find all sorts of maps and activities you want to do.

We wanted to ride the cable car and see the Alps, but the weather was not cooperative. It was rainy and foggy so instead, we decided to visit Glacier Gorge. It is kid-friendly and stroller-friendly. Go for a walk inside this glacier and enjoy this masterpiece of nature.

Next, stop at Interlaken and ride the cable cars if you have time or just wander around the city and go for a walk by the river.

We spent the night in the same place, visited the Lucerne River in the morning, and drove to Rhine Falls by noon. There is a beautiful walk by the river to the Rhine Falls itself.

Hope ou have a fantastic time in Switzerland with your family.
